Make sure that you have at least 8 MB of RAM allocated to QuarkXPress. We recommend 12 MB, depending on the number of other XTensions, and the number of images in your documents. (If necessary, quit QuarkXPress if it is open, click on the program’s icon once and select Get Info under the Finder’s File menu. Increase the suggested memory size).
1. To install, quit QuarkXPress if it is open.
2. Drop Live Picture XT into the XTension folder inside the QuarkXPress folder.
3. Double click the Table Maker Install file.
4. Click Install and the program will be installed on the selected hard drive.
Note that the Table Maker folder also contains the Tables folder. Make sure that you select this table in your Live Picture XT Preferences.
To view JPEG-compressed IVUE files in QuarkXPress, make sure you have QuickTime™ installed and active in your System Extensions folder.
Preferences
To change the default preferences, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, and then choose Live Picture XT.
If you change the Live Picture XT preferences before opening a document, the preferences will affect each new file created with your copy of QuarkXPress. If you change the preferences while a document is open, the changed preferences will only affect that document.
The first time you use Live Picture XT, open QuarkXPress and choose the Live Picture XT preferences. Click on Select and assign the Table folder that you copied to your hard drive.
Among other values, your preferences will let you set the following defaults:
∑ Option to convert images to IVUE when importing them.
∑ Automatic creation of an Adaptive Separation table. An Adaptive Separation table is made from CMYK images while converting them to IVUE. This table can be used when the file is separated and printed by Live Picture XT.
∑ Option to print Live Picture separations and Live Picture USM (unsharp masking). Note that even when tables and USM are selected in the Separation Control dialog, you can decide to turn printing of Live Picture XT’s separation and USM on or off in the Live Picture XT preferences.
Zooming in at more than 400%
Live Picture XT lets you zoom in up to 1200%. Through clicking-and-dragging you could reach Quark's maximum zoom percentage of 400%. You can increase your zooming up to 1200% by clicking with the Zoom Tool on the image. Each click increases the zooming by certain increments that you can specify in the Zoom Tools Preferences. To change the Zoom Tools Preferences, double click on the zoom tool and change the Increment. Also, change the Maximum Percentage to 400%.
File Conversions
You can convert images to IVUE when they have the Photoshop file format or any file format that QuarkXPress and active other XTensions support.
To convert when placing individual images
1. Choose Get Picture under the File Menu.
2. Select the image you want to place.
3. When prompted, click Save to convert the image to IVUE. Converted files will be renamed with .ivue tagged at the end of the original filename. Conversion to IVUE does not replace the original images. Be sure you have enough disk space to accommodate converted files in addition to your original files.
To convert images in existing documents
1. Use the Convert to IVUE dialog from Live Picture Tools under the Utilities menu.
2. Select IVUE Batch Convert, All Pictures, or Currently Selected Images.
EPS or DCS images cannot be automatically converted on initial insert in QuarkXPress. You will have to place the image first and then choose the Convert to IVUE dialog under Live Picture Tools from Utilities.
Separations and Unsharp Masking
Live Picture XT has its own window that lets you apply and judge separations and unsharp masking settings.
1. Select a single image with QuarkXPress’ Item or Content tool.
2. Select the Separations Control window from Live Picture Tools under the Utilities menu.
You can toggle between Normal and Advanced Mode by clicking on the triangle at the bottom left of the Separation Control window.
Separation View on or off
By toggling the eye icon next to Separation you can choose to either display separations or display the original RGB image in the After window.
Selecting a table
You can change your separation table in the Table pop-up menu.
USM Custom Mode
Select the levels of unsharp masking from this pop-up menu. Custom USM is only an option if the amount, radius or threshold sliders have been altered in the Advanced Mode.
Black Generation (in Advanced Mode)
Under Black Generation you will view separation information on the image, based on Live Picture XT’s reading of the separation table. By selecting a new table, the display will reflect the new separation specifications. The readout information cannot be altered. If you do need different separation settings applied, you need to choose a different separation table.
Printing
Your service bureau or printer needs to have a copy of Live Picture XT running in QuarkXPress to output IVUE images.
Make sure that they also have all the tables you have assigned to your images. When using Collect for Output, all tables will be automatically copied into the output folder.
If you output to RGB devices, note you have the option to turn Enable printing of separations and Enable printing of USM off in Live Picture XT’s Preferences.
LP Table Maker
Table Maker is a utility included with Live Picture XT that lets you easily generate a table from a CMYK separation of the LP RGB Target TIFF file, made in your preferred separation application. Table Maker and the LP RGB Target file are located in your Tables folder.
To create a separation table:
1 Open the LP RGB Target file in your preferred separation application.
2 Use this application to separate the target and create a CMYK TIFF output file.
3 Launch LP Table Maker.
4 To load the CMYK TIFF output file in LP Table Maker, choose Open from the File menu.
5 Save the file using a name that references the original separation software.
Make sure that you have not applied USM to your image when creating separations. USM will distort the color values in the table.
